The Impressions – Finally Got Myself Together
Well, since Curtis Mayfield is one on my all-time favorites, and I watched a documentary on Bob Marley where it was reported that the Impressions were favorites in Jamaica at the time, and a lot of early reggae artists were influenced by them, I decided it was about time I got my Impressions collection up.聽 I grabbed up a couple of the first Impressions vinyls I saw, not even realizing that this one didn’t have Curtis appearing on it.
Some loss, but damn, this soul is so sweet, the arrangements and harmonies so tight and the songwriting is so good, it didn’t even matter.
Instead of Curtis, The Impressions picked up Ralph Johnson and Reggie Torian. Motown guys Ed Townsend and David Van De Pitte are also new additions. More of that smooth-Philly-strings-soul sounds than that Motown funk, but really good either way.
