Nas – Made You Look: God's Son Live

This a bootleg/unofficial release from the "Made You Look: God's Son Live" DVD.  I was lucky enough to get to see Nas and Damian Marley at the Wiltern on Wilshire/Western last night for the Distant Relatives tour.  Both the show and the album are solid, and it was my first time seeing Nas live, though I had seen Damian two times previously at the Mateel and Reggae On The River up in Humboldt. The show was tight, and the band was off the wall, but there's something about the dichotomy between Nas & Marley seemed to me to be a little off sometimes…like how can you go from a great cover of Damian's father's (Bob Marley) "War", and then transition into Nas's "Hate Me Now"?  That shit doesn't make any sense…One song a speech by Haile Selassie turned into a timeless song, a militant call for equality for the continent of Africa and it's peoples spread across the globe, the next a song about being hated for clothes and jewelery?  Just didn't seem to fit in with the theme of the album or the show, but of course, maybe the album is named "Distant" Relatives for a reason.

Of course, hearing the old jams off the Illmatic album,  as well as "Nas Is Like", "If I Ruled The World" among others, performed by a full band who absolutely handled business, makes any complaint I may have trivial, and I was so hype after that it was absurd. Marley handled business as well, and even though it was the third time I had seen him live, the first two times were before Welcome To Jamrock or Distant Relatives were released.  Every time I've seen him though, he's held it down, and there's something special about seeing Bob Marley's son continue to make music and put on shows in the same spirit as his father. This album was released in 2004, and as far as I know, the only live album Nas has out, even though it's an unofficial release, so until the DVD/Soundtrack for the Distant Relatives tour gets dropped, enjoy.  And buy a ticket, it's worth the doe.
